The Work of the Holy Spirit in Genuine Transformation
What is true spirituality?
In a time when conversations about “spiritual formation” and personal growth are everywhere, we need clarity. We need depth. We need biblical discernment. And we need to think carefully together about the personal and practical work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
At this year’s Theology Refresher, we will gather as pastors and church leaders from across the EFCA East District to consider what Scripture teaches about genuine transformation — transformation that is rooted not in trends or techniques, but in the indwelling and empowering work of the Holy Spirit.
Drawing from Article 6 of the EFCA Statement of Faith, we will reflect on the Spirit who:
- Indwells believers
- Illuminates the Word
- Guides and equips for service
- Empowers Christlike living
Together, we will explore questions such as:
- What is true spirituality?
- How does the Holy Spirit transform believers into the image of Christ?
- How should we evaluate contemporary teachings on “spiritual formation”?
- What are the “means of grace,” and how do they function in the Christian life?
- What is piety and pietism, and how have they shaped the church?
- How do we grow in genuine, enduring Christlikeness?
This is theology done in community — thoughtful, pastoral, and grounded in Scripture.
